Gideon and "His Special Friend"

I have to take a moment and brag about my sweet, caring, and wonderful Big Boy!

When Ammon and I go to the Temple each month, we get a babysitter who is 17 and is from our ward! Her name is Chelsea! We tell Gideon and Jeremiah that their friend Chelsea is coming over to play while Mommy and Daddy go to the Temple! Both boys do really well with her and enjoy having someone else to play with besides Mommy!

Well, the other day Gideon comes home from Sunbeams and has a picture where he drew Mommy, Daddy, and Gideon and on top of this picture written in the teachers handwriting is "Gideon!" He also has another picture where he drew someone and on top of this picture written in the teachers handwriting is "Jesse!" Now, there is no Jesse in Gideon's Sunbeam class, and he only knows one Jesse which is his cousin that lives in Colorado (who he doesn't get to see very often)! This Jesse is younger than Gideon and so Gideon usually talks about playing with Joshua and Jonas (who are Jesse's older brothers) more than Jesse! After I got Sunday Dinner cooking, I asked Gideon what he did in Primary and what his pictures were! He said that he learned that Jesus is Heavenly Father's son and that Gideon is Mommy and Daddy's son! He then showed me his picture of me and Ammon and him! Then he holds up the other picture and says, "This is my special friend Chelsea!" It then made more sense to me of why the picture had Jesse written on it! The teacher must have thought that Gideon said Jesse not Chelsea! He said that they talked about friends as well and how everyone has a Mommy and Daddy! Then Gideon says, "Mommy, I want to take this picture over to my friend Chelsea and take her some treats as well!" I was so surprised that my little 3 year old would think about serving his friend! I of course then asked him what treat he would like to make! We made Baked S'mores that very Sunday and called Chelsea and asked if we could come over and visit with her and her family! We went over to Chelsea's house that evening and found out that she was getting a head cold and didn't feel very good! Gideon went up to her and handed her the picture and treats and said, "Here, I colored a picture of you and here are some yummy treats that will make you feel better!" How my heart melted to see my little boy serving "His Special Friend!"

I'm grateful that I am blessed to be Gideon's mother! I have been reminded how good it is to serve our friends and help them know that we care! I sure love you all and wish that we could all be closer together, so that I could serve you daily, but for now I hope that this brings a smile to your face and a hug to your heart! I sure love you all!

Cute! I can't believe he's in sunbeams already time goes by way too fast. Your boys are so cute Des. And being a mother really is the best responsibility ever!
